Yasmine Kumordzi, a PhD student from Chemistry in Durham, joins our lab on a part-time basis as a volunteer. Yasmine has a long-standing interest in insects and insect-borne diseases, and you can read a bit more about her on our People page. Welcome, Yasmine!
The project will be focussed on live imaging from olfactory receptor neurons and behavioural experiments in larvae of malaria mosquitoes, using the newly developed transgenic mosquito lines. Rebecca Pull has joined the lab today as a part-time insectary technician. Welcome Rebecca! 🙂
Our new paper is just out in Current Biology: Commonly Used Insect Repellents Hide Human Odors from Anopheles Mosquitoes accompanied by a lay summary on Twitter by Chris and a short write-up in the Publications section. In short, we used, for the first time, GCaMP in Anopheles, and concluded that DEET traps molecules of attractive odorants without directly […]
Abbi Farley and Oliver Beaven have joined the lab until May 2020 to conduct their MBiol projects. Welcome, Abbi and Olly!
We are happy to announce that we received a Research Grant from the Royal Society to support our mosquito work over the following year!
Our latest publication, and the first one from the lab, is now online: Progress in the use of genetic methods to study insect behavior outside Drosophila Suzan Mansourian, Richard A. Fandino, Olena Riabinina Behind a paywall, but we are happy to share a copy!
We have just learnt that we received a small grant from the Wellcome trust, to fund a project on chemosensation in mosquito larvae. The project will involve live Ca2+ imaging and behavioural assays. We will be hiring a research technician for this project. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Lena.
We are happy to host post-doctoral fellows who would like to work on project that overlap with our research interests. Marie Curie fellowships from the EC are an excellent option (deadline 11th of September) that greatly benefited Lena’s career, and could benefit yours! If you are considering applying and are looking for a host, please […]
