Kyle completed his Masters in Medicinal Chemistry at Newcastle University in 2017, and following that worked as a Research Technician at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. In this role he led a small team monitoring the chemical integrity of insecticide treated bed nets that are used predominantly in Sub-Saharan Africa to help prevent the spread of malaria. During this time Kyle developed a strong interest in tropical disease biology and epidemiology, specifically relating to mosquito borne diseases.
In pursuit of this interest, Kyle is currently completing a PhD under the Newcastle-Liverpool-Durham BBSRC DTP programme. His project is focussed on the chemical properties of mosquito larval habitats in the UK, and how these may affect oviposition preference of female mosquitoes, vector competence of emerging adults, and the wider implication for mosquito borne disease transmission in the UK. Kyle is based at the University of Liverpool under the primary supervision of Dr. Marcus Blagrove, with secondary supervision from Dr. Lena Riabinina and Prof. Matthew Baylis.
