Aiden is currently in his first year of studying Bsc Biological Sciences at Durham University and has received the 2026 Biosciences Studentship grant to undergo a summer project at Insect Neuro Lab. He will be exploring the brain anatomy of bumblebees and comparing the relative optic lobe volume in bumblebee foragers from Sussex, Durham, and Portugal using anti-synapsin immunostaining and confocal imaging with 3D segmentation to investigate volumetric asymmetry in optic lobes across various bumblebee species. He will also be working as an insectary technician over the summer and acquire skills in GM animal care. He is excited to develop his lab skills and learn from this invaluable opportunity.
